Our Commitment to Accessibility

ABEC Hub is committed to ensuring that our venue, website, and booking services are accessible to all people, including those with disabilities. We continually work to improve accessibility across all our operations in compliance with the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 (Cth) and Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1.

1. Physical Accessibility

ABEC Hub is located on Level 2 and is accessible by stairs only. There is no lift or ramp access. Guests with mobility requirements should contact ABEC Hub before booking so suitable arrangements or alternatives can be discussed.

Our facility features:

  • Entry: Level 2 — access strictly via stairs (no lift, no ramp)
  • Parking: Unallocated on-site parking available directly outside the complex
  • Toilets: Standard facilities on Level 2
  • Furniture: Standard meeting room furniture configured to your requirements
  • Service Animals: Guide dogs and service animals are welcome if attending with a non-mobility-impaired guest

2. Mobility Support

Due to Level 2 location with stair-only access, ABEC Hub cannot accommodate wheelchair users, mobility scooters, or guests with significant mobility impairment. If you have mobility requirements, please contact us to discuss alternative arrangements or to confirm if your needs can be met with support from companions.

3. Sensory Accessibility

For participants with sensory disabilities:

  • Hearing: We can arrange Auslan interpreters, CART (real-time captioning), or hearing loop systems upon request
  • Vision: Large-print materials, screen readers, accessible digital content, and verbal descriptions are available
  • Lighting: Adjustable, non-flickering lighting to accommodate photosensitivity
  • Acoustics: Good acoustic design to minimise background noise and echo

4. Cognitive and Neurodevelopmental Accessibility

We support participants with cognitive disabilities:

  • Clear, jargon-free communication
  • Written materials in plain language
  • Quiet break spaces for sensory regulation
  • Flexible scheduling to allow for processing time
  • Assistance from support persons or companions

5. Website Accessibility

Our website is designed to be accessible to all users:

  • Keyboard navigation fully supported
  • Colour contrast meets WCAG AA standards
  • Text resizable without loss of functionality
  • All images have descriptive alt text
  • Form fields are clearly labelled
  • Links are descriptive and understandable
  • Page structure uses semantic HTML for screen reader compatibility
  • Video content includes captions and transcripts

6. Booking and Communication Accessibility

We accommodate diverse communication preferences:

  • Booking enquiries via email, phone, or web form
  • Written communications can be provided in large print upon request
  • Digital documents available in accessible formats (plain text, large print, Braille)
  • Telephone support with clear, patient communication
  • Easy-to-understand booking confirmation and invoice documents

7. Service Animals and Support Persons

All service animals are welcome at ABEC Hub, including guide dogs and assistance animals. We also warmly welcome support persons or companions. Please inform us of this when booking to ensure appropriate arrangements are made.

8. Assistance and Support

Our concierge team is trained to support participants with disabilities. We offer:

  • Assistance with registration and wayfinding
  • Rest areas if you need to take a break
  • Help with technology setup or troubleshooting
  • Support accessing any specialist services or equipment

9. Catering Accessibility

We accommodate diverse dietary and accessibility needs:

  • Allergies and food intolerances
  • Religious or cultural dietary restrictions
  • Texture-modified diets (pureed, minced, soft foods)
  • Vegan, vegetarian, or other dietary preferences
  • Please declare all requirements during booking

10. Accessibility Planning

We recommend contacting us early in the booking process to discuss any accessibility needs. Because the venue is on Level 2 with stairs-only access, this allows us to confirm what can be accommodated, or to discuss alternatives, before you book. Our team will work with you to create a tailored accessibility plan where possible.

11. Continuous Improvement

We regularly assess and improve accessibility. If you identify barriers or have suggestions, please contact us. We value your feedback and are committed to ongoing improvement.

13. Accessibility Compliance & Transparency

ABEC Hub is committed to transparency and compliance with the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 (Cth) and Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1. Our website is designed to be accessible to all users where technically feasible.

Important Limitation: Due to our Level 2 location with stair-only access, we cannot accommodate guests with mobility impairment. We are committed to being honest about our physical limitations and working with potential guests to explore alternative solutions where possible.
